Recipe: Coriander Pesto

I have been making this for quite some time now and each time, I change the recipe just a little bit. This recipe is great for liver support (just what we need after the holiday season, isn’t it?). Here’s why:

  • Coriander is a very strong chelator, which means it attaches to heavy metals in the body and helps to get rid of them
  • Brazil nuts are a great source of selenium, which is an antioxidant to help support the cells from damage
  • Pumpkin seeds are a source of zinc and magnesium, both of which are required for detoxification in the liver, while zinc is also used for toxin removal in the kidneys and bladder
  • Garlic and lemon juice also support detoxification in the liver
  • Nutritional yeast is a food product which comes from saccharomyces cerevisiae (Boulardii). You can buy it in most health food stores. It can be used for treatment of constipation, candida albicans, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammation in the gut, and some parasites (just to name a few!).*

Ingredients:

1 clove garlic

½ cup brazil nuts

¼ cup pumpkin seeds

2 cups coriander

Zest & juice of 1 lemon

½ cup extra virgin olive oil

1 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes or grated parmesan cheese

Directions:

Combine garlic, nuts and seeds in a food processor and blend until roughly chopped.

Add remaining ingredients and blend until desired texture is reached.

Enjoy with veggie sticks such as carrot, cucumber, celery or capsicum.

*It is recommended you consult your health practitioner to discuss your condition before commencing treatment with saccharomyces cerevisiae (Boulardii).
